Training prog on consumer protection held

NAHARLAGUN, Jan 30: The Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs department organized a one-day awareness programme on consumer protection on the topic ‘Be a Smart Shopper’ for NGO/VCOs here on Tuesday.
Attending the programme as the resource person, Senior Food Safety Officer Dogendra Boishnab highlighted various provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act.
He also spoke on mandatory BIS certification on food items related to baby food, packaged drinking water and salt, and clarified the doubts raised by the participants.
Senior FSO, KP Tago, ACLM gave a demonstration on food adulteration with simple tests and weighing and measuring instruments. He urged the participants to be careful while buying products, particularly food items.
Papum Pare District ACLM, Amrit Taba spoke at length on consumer redressal machineries set up under Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and also narrated some of the interesting case history of the state and country.
ACLM Taba Tabin briefed on various provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and its importance in present days’ market scenario.
Papum Pare LM&CA Inspector, Debia Tana highlighted the Packaged Commodities Rules with especial reference to mandatory declaration of packaged commodities with special reference to MRP. He also briefed on correct procedure of delivering petrol at dispensing pumps as well as rights of consumer to test accuracy of delivery and adulteration.
Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs controller in-charge cum DCLM Daro Marbom, Itanagar LM&CA Inspector, G Singpho and technical assistant, Talar Singio also spoke.
