Tuki acknowledges contribution of Christianity to Nyishi society

47th annual conference of NBCC

NYORCH, Feb 10: Former chief minister Nabam Tuki acknowledged the positive contribution of Christianity to the Nyishi society, as well as the pivotal role being played by the Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC) in transforming, developing and changing the society.
Addressing the valedictory function of the 47th annual conference of the NBCC at the Baptist church here in Papum Pare district on Sunday, Tuki hailed the NBCC for involving itself in social reform activities by spearheading the ‘clean election movement’ and the ‘anti-liquor movement.’
The NBCC’s Clean Election Committee chairman, Rev Likha Tach, spoke about the necessity of having clean elections, and Shillong Baptist church pastor, Rev L Malsawma Vanchhawng, spoke on the theme ‘Defile not yourself’ (Leviticus 11: 44).
A prayer was also held for clean and smooth elections in the state and the country.
In the group dance competition, the Pistana pastoral range stood first, while the Chandranagar and the Poma pastoral range stood second and third, respectively.
The conference was attended by more than 4000 delegates from 469 churches under the NBCC.
