PASIGHAT, Feb 15: Thirty-five citrus farmers and unemployed youths from East Siang, West Siang and Siang districts are participating in a 25-day training programme on growing citrus fruits, which got underway at the College of Horticulture (CHF) here in East Siang district on Friday.
The programme, organised by the CHF in collaboration with the Agriculture Skill Council of India and Umiam (Meghalaya)-based ICAR-ATARI, is aimed at imparting training in the techniques and skills required for growing citrus fruits in the state.
On the first day of the programme, CHF Dean Prof BN Hazarika encouraged unemployed youths of the state to take up large-scale cultivation of citrus fruits.
Highlighting the benefits and advantages of commercial cultivation of citrus fruits, the professor gave assurance that the CHF would provide technical support to the growers.
