PALIN, Feb 18: Two earthmovers, weighing 20 metric tons each, were made to cross the steel suspension Bailey bridge over the Kumey river on the Yangte-Tali road in Kra Daadi district on Sunday to test the load bearing capacity of the bridge.
The 97-metre-long bridge, which was constructed under the supervision of the Tali PWD division, will eliminate the communication gap with Tali ADC headquarters.
Kra Daadi Deputy Commissioner S Miji, who witnessed the load-testing, also drove across the bridge, along with a team of officials.
PWD EE Bamang Raju informed the DC that 95 percent of the formation-cutting work for the 12 km road from the bridge to Tali has been completed.
However, the EE said, the road will not be fit for travelling during the rainy season “as fund has been sanctioned only for the formation-cutting.”
“The 40 km road from Yangte to the bridge will also be not suitable for travelling during the rainy season due to poor alignment,” he added.
Miji also inspected some of the polling stations and took stock of the security arrangements.
The DC was accompanied by, among others, ADC (HQ) Millo Kojin, Tali ADC Biaro Sorum, DDA Tana Teti, and EAC Bamin Tarang. (DIPRO)
