DEO initiates all measures to ensure free & fair election in East Siang

PASIGHAT, Mar 15: East Siang Deputy Commissioner cum DEO Dr. Kinny Singh has initiated several measures, set up different mechanisms and issued numerous orders to ensure free, fair and transparent election in East Siang district.
The district administration has declared 9, 10, 11 April and 22, 23, 24 May as dry days, and ordered change in timing of wine shops.
According to an order issued in this regard, the wine shops will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm, reports DIPRO.
“No individuals will be allowed to carry more than six quarter bottles of IMFL and 12 bottles of beer (of 650 ml) at a time for personal use during the election time,” the order said.
While Media Certification & Monitoring Committee has been constituted for media certification, paid advertisement etc, app-based services, like “cVigil,” voter helpline 1059 etc. have also been arranged by the district administration for the ensuing polls, it said.
The DEO said that Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system attached to Electronic Voting Machines will be introduced this time.
“To ensure transparency and clarity, a slip would be generated in the system, which would appear on the screen for seven seconds for the verification by the voter and then it would enter inside a sealed chamber of the machine automatically in printed forms,” she said.
One hundred and eight polling booths have been set up for a total of 51929 voters in East Siang, out of which 25328 are male and 26601 are female voters, informed the DEO.
EAC Henkir Lollen informed that so far 242 firearms have been deposited in East Siang.
“The Flying Squad along with police officials have seized more than Rs 13 Lakh illegal cash since the model code of conduct was enforced,” the report said.
Stating that the district is fully prepared to hold the simultaneous election, the DEO appealed to the voters to exercise their adult franchise fearlessly.
