ITANAGAR, Mar 19: The flying squads (FS) and static surveillance teams (SST) appointed by the election commission have seized Rs 37.9 lakhs from different parts of the state over the last few days, taking the total amount of money seized since the enforcement of the election model code of conduct to Rs 67.8 lakhs.
The SST in Longding district on Tuesday seized Rs 34.9 lakhs from a car during night checking at Tissa, informed Longding SP Rohit Meena.
“Two persons were interrogated in connection with the cash, but they could not provide any satisfactory explanation,” the SP said, adding that the income tax team has been informed about the seizure as per the standard operating procedure.
Further investigation is on, the SP said.
In Lepa Rada district, Rs 3 lakhs were seized during checking at Dari on Tuesday.
The FS’ and the SSTs also seized illicit drugs (marijuana), liquors, and as many as 12 daos from various places in Basar and Tirbin areas, DIPRO reported.
