ITANAGAR, Mar 23: Governor BD Mishra’s wife Neelam Misra on Saturday visited Lower Niti Vihar Colony here and interacted with the colony’s loin loom weavers.
Advising them to take advantage of e-marketing, she informed the weavers that they could sell their loin loom products through e-marketing to any interested individual, anywhere in the world.
“It includes both direct response marketing and indirect marketing elements, and uses a range of technologies to help connect businesses to their customers,” Misra said.
She also informed the weavers about the Government e-Marketplace or GeM.
“Loin loom weaving is an extension of our traditions, and has been a time-tested self-employment avenue for our ladies,” she said. “It is an important aspect of financial empowerment of women, particularly in the rural areas.”
Misra stressed the need for popularizing, promoting and propagating the practice and culture of loin loom weaving among the educated young girls.
“Every tribe of Arunachal Pradesh has a different colour and design symbolizing their identity, and it has to be preserved and promoted,” she said.
Misra also visited the houses of the weavers and saw for herself the way loin loom weaving is practiced by the womenfolk at home.
Commending the women for keeping their houses clean, she appealed to them to extend the cleanliness to their colony. (Raj Bhavan)
