YUPIA, Mar 25: The confusion over the Congress’ candidate for the Doimukh assembly constituency was cleared on Monday after Nabam Vivek filed his nomination from the National People’s Party (NPP) at the deputy commissioner’s office here in Papum Pare district.
The Indian National Congress (INC) will now be fielding former Papum Pare ZPC and long-time Congress leader Nabam Rana as its candidate for the Doimukh seat.
Both candidates have filed nominations from their respective parties.
On 23 March, Rana had informed reporters that he would be contesting on an INC ticket. However, when the party came out with its list of 53 candidates on the same night, it had named Vivek as its Doimukh candidate.
Rana, who had already received the party ticket from the APCC chief on 18 March, had also filed his nomination.
On whether there was a possibility of the people’s vote getting scattered between him and Vivek, Rana had said, “He is my brother, but it is for the public to decide who they want as their leader.”
The candidates did not provide a proper clarification on the confusion over both their candidatures having been from the INC.
