ZIRO, Apr 1: The Apatani Youth Association (AYA), which has been spearheading the campaign for a money-free and fair election in the Apatani plateau, organized a ‘platform speech-cum-MoU signing’ programme at the Dree ground here in Lower Subansiri district on 31 March.
Besides the two contesting candidates for the Ziro-Hapoli assembly constituency – Nani Ribia (INC) and Tage Taki (BJP) – the programme was attended by members of the Tanw Supuñ Dùukuñ, the Apatani GB Welfare Association, the Apatani Students’ Union, the Apatani Women Association Ziro, and a large number of people.
The programme featured platform speeches by both the candidates and cross-questioning between them, besides a question round from the public and the media, according to an AYA release.
“A 13-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by them, and the president and secretary of the Apatani GB Welfare Association were signatories to the MoU as witnesses,” said the AYA release.
The AYA had conducted a series of awareness programme at every village and educational institute in phases after launching the campaign in July last year.
The association said its campaign received overwhelming support from all sections of the society.
