Man killed by friend following altercation

ROING, Apr 9: A man identified as Togeh Mepola was run over by a car and killed by his friend following an altercation over some personal issue, here in Lower Dibang Valley district late Monday night.
As per reports, the deceased, who was the AAPSU’s co-convenor (east), had an altercation with a fellow party worker, Asomi Linggi, at the residence of the BJP’s MLA contestant for the Roing constituency, following which the accused called up Mepola on the phone and asked him to come out of the residence.
At about 2 am, when Mepola came out of the house, Linggi reportedly ran over him with his car multiple times, killing him on the spot. The victim was rushed to the district hospital, but was reportedly declared brought dead.
Acting on a complaint from the victim’s brother, the police reached the spot at around 4:30 am on Tuesday but did not find anyone there. The investigating officer (IO) of the case, Inspector SS Jha, informed that “after investigation and statements from eyewitnesses, the culprit was arrested and his Fortuner car, bearing registration number AR-16-A-1001, which was used for committing the crime, was also seized by the police.
“Postmortem examination was conducted and viscera sample also collected. Eyewitnesses have been examined and their statements recorded too,” the IO said.
Meanwhile, SP Sanjay Kumar Sain has lauded the police team for their prompt action and assured that the case would be investigated in a fair manner.
