Trafficked minor girl rescued from Mechuka

MECHUKA, May 2: A 16-year-old tribal girl from Jonai in Assam’s Dhemaji district, who had been reported missing two weeks back, was rescued from here in Shi Yomi district on Wednesday by Jonai police.
According to a report, the minor girl had allegedly been abducted by three women on 16 April, and subsequently sold to an old man in Mechuka the next day.
After an FIR was lodged by the victim’s mother, the police in Jonai registered a case (No 44/2019) under Section 365 IPC, and recovered the minor girl from here on Wednesday.
The police, however, is yet to arrest anyone in this connection.
The victim’s mother reported that one Anita Perme Doley of Kamalpur village, along with two others, had enticed the minor girl and taken her to Mechuka.
