AALO, May 3: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly raped by one Idak Bagra (25) in Higi Bagra village in West Siang district on 28 April.
The rapist, who surrendered before the police on Friday, threatened the woman with dire consequences and raped her at midnight.
A case has been registered against Bagra at the Aalo police station under Section 376 IPC, based on an FIR lodged by the family members of the victim.
Bagra had earlier also committed a similar crime against a daily wage earner from outside the state in Higi Bagra on 6 May, 2018. However, the court had acquitted him due to lack of evidence.
Meanwhile, the West Siang unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society, along
with the Memo Ao Youth Association, the Pushi Bango Welfare Society and the Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association has submitted a representation to the district administration, demanding exemplary punishment for the culprit for repeatedly outraging the modesty of women.
They demanded that the deputy commissioner instruct the circle officer of Bagra to stay at his place of posting, and also establish a police outpost in the circle to contain such crimes. (DIPRO)
