Union expresses concern over slow road work

PAKKE-KESSANG, May 13: The All Pakke-Kessang Pijeriang Dissing-Passo Seijosa Students’ Union (APPDSSU) in a representation to the PWD executive engineer here on Monday expressed “displeasure” over the slow progress of the work on the North Eastern Council-funded road from Seijosa to Pakke-Kessang.
The union claimed that, after interacting with technical experts and the contractor of the road project, the union observed that the work was not up to the mark and was behind schedule.
The project’s completion deadline is 2020. However, work on major areas like culverts, bridges, retaining walls and drainage are yet to start, the union said.
It further claimed that the quality of the formation-cutting from Pallav village in Pakke-Kessang to the 12-km point towards Seijosa was below standard, and urged the EE to improve the stretch at the earliest.
The union urged the executing agency to expedite the work to ensure time-bound completion, so that other works could be completed simultaneously.
Terming the road as a lifeline of the newly-created district, the union said the work quality should not be comprised with.
