AALO, May 21: West Siang District Election Officer (DEO) Swetika Sachan on Tuesday convened a meeting to discuss the procedures for appointment of counting agents and the general conduct to be followed during the counting of votes on 23 May.
Interacting with the candidates and election agents of the Arunachal West parliamentary constituency and Liromoba, Likabali, Basar and Aalo assembly constituencies, the DEO urged them to strictly adhere to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and ensure peaceful counting.
She said that with the introduction of the electronically transmitted postal ballots system (ETPBS) and casting of postal ballots by election duty staffs, the number of the postal ballots for counting “has gone up considerably and requires more time.”
There is also mandatory count of VVPAT slips from five polling stations per assembly segment, she said.
Meanwhile, the second phase of training for counting supervisors and counting assistants here was imparted on Tuesday by the election observer.
The officials on vote counting duties were cautioned to be true to their sensitive tasks, as per the laid down rules framed by the ECI.” (DIPRO)
