State’s sports community welcomes Rijiju’s appointment as MoS for sports

ITANAGAR, May 31: The sports community of Arunachal Pradesh has said Kiren Rijiju’s appointment as union minister of state (independent charge) for youth affairs & sports would prove to be a boon for sports in the state and the country.
In a press statement, Arunachal Olympic Association secretary-general Abraham K Techi said the sports community of the state expects that Rijiju would take initiatives to meet the sports infrastructure deficit, both indoor and outdoor, in Arunachal Pradesh, besides in areas like establishment of sports academies.
Techi, who also is the secretary-general of the North East Olympic Association, said the NE region, which has high potential in sports, would greatly benefit from Rijiju’s latest appointment.
In a separate press statement, Sports Authority of Arunachal Chairman Bamang Tago exuded confidence that the sports sector in the country would witness a sea change under Rijiju’s leadership.
He said that, despite sports’ powerful role in creating bonhomie and fostering peace and brotherhood among various nations, states and people, sports activities are undervalued in various parts of the country.
