ITANAGAR, Jun 27: In a major crackdown as part of the probe into the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) scam, the special investigation team (SIC) arrested Kabak Bath, a junior engineer of the PWD, on Thursday afternoon, informed SIC SP M Harsha Vardhan.
“Kabak Bath was arrested in connection with FIR No 2/19 of the SIC police station case, under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC, read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” the SP said.
Speaking to The Arunachal Times, Vardhan said Bath was arrested at around 5:45 pm, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the scam involved in the disbursement of compensation for the construction of the 157.7-km Bopi-Potin road.
“The arrest was made after the investigation of the money trail pointed to the role of the JE in the case,” the SP said.
“Bath was arrested at the Itanagar police station after he was questioned about the money trail and he could not give answers. He was not cooperating in unearthing the conspiracy,” Vardhan said.
The multi-crore TAH scam is considered to be the one of biggest scams in Arunachal Pradesh.
“The total compensation amount is Rs 188 crore. We are still ascertaining how much of it went to fake beneficiaries. It is likely to be around Rs 50-60 crore,” the SP said.
