Jal Shakti Abhiyan reaches Upper Subansiri

DAPORIJO, Jul 16: Union WCD Ministry Additional Secretary K Moses Chalai urged government officers and departments to make coordinated efforts for conservation and sustainable management of water in Upper Subansiri district.
During a meeting with officers of various departments as a ‘prabhari officer’ under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan- 2019, here on 11 July, Chalai emphasized on proper implementation of ongoing projects under the MGNREGA, the PMKSY, the IWMP, and the ATMA.
A team of officers and scientists headed by Chalai during its tour of Daporijo from 11 to 14 July in connection with the Jal Shakti Abhiyan visited the water treatment project in Tanium Putu, the IWMP site in Sikarijo village, and the community farm pond in Digbak village. The team also interacted with the villagers and goan burahs of Digbak on 11 July.
Union Petroleum Ministry Director Vijay Sharma, who is also the nodal officer for Arunachal, along with the scientists visited Dula village in Baririjo circle and interacted with the people there on the second day of their visit.
The team also visited various streams and traditional water bodies in Maro circle to chalk out strategies for identification of area-specific intervention required for further implementation of the programme.
Chalai, along with his team of officers from the rural development agency, also visited Puchigeko CD block and interacted with the locals there.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on 1 July announced the commencement of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan – a campaign for water conservation and water security.
The campaign will be held upto 15 September, with a second phase scheduled to be held from 1 October to 30 November for states receiving the Northeast retreating monsoon.
The focus of the campaign will be on water-stressed districts and blocks. (DIPRO)
