NAMSAI, Aug 3: Eminent sculptor and artist from Assam, Biren Singha, arrived here on Saturday at the invitation of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.
Singha had earlier built the statue of Bhupen Hazarika, which is installed in Bolung, near Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district.
“The invitation to Singha is to enable installation of his creations which will mirror the land and the people of Namsai district,” Mein said during a programme which was organized to welcome and familiarize the sculptor with the local culture showcased by a team of the Tai Khamti Heritage and Literary Society at the Golden Pagoda.
Chow Sijanta Mansai, a prominent sculptor and artist from Namsai, spoke about his experiences as a self-taught artist. The abbot of the Golden Pagoda, Ven Vimalatissa Mahathera, also spoke.
Earlier, Singha visited important sites in the district where arts and artifacts of the Tai Khamti and the Singpho communities are displayed.
Singha is also planning to conduct a workshop on sculpting for budding youths sometime in 2020. (DCMO)
