ITANAGAR, Aug 19: Siang United survived scares to defeat Bogun Narmi 4-2 and top the points table in Pool C in the Itanagar Solung Football Tournament on Monday.
Siang United, who have already made it to the quarterfinals, stepped into the field in a quest to become the table topper. They took the lead five minutes into the play with a goal from Omin Pangging. The lead was extended further by Kaling Tatin in the 13th minute.
But Bogum Narmi, who were already out of the contest and played for pride, struck back in the last 30th minute of the first half with two stunning goals from John Boli and Kaling Tondrang (2-2).
Siang United FC survived some tense moments before it wrapped up the match 4-2 with goals from Tanyong Nokar and Omin Pangging (4-2).
In another match, Pirbo Liipiik SC beat Narmi FC 3-0.
After having already qualified for the quarterfinals and with no chance of topping Pool A, Pirbo Liipiik tested their bench strength against Narmi FC, who were already out of the tournament.
Pirbo Liipiik started the game with a few of their bench players, including popular DJ, Bom, in the starting eleven. But their strikers seemed to be struggling in converting the opportunities.
In contrast, Narmi FC launched several counterattacks and came close to scoring on several occasions.
With time ticking, Pirbo Liipiik SC mounted pressure on their rival’s half, and eventually succeeded to score three late goals, by Arun Tayeng (2) and Borjing Perme (1).
