LUMLA, Aug 24: Local MLA Jambey Tashi said the dream for a vibrant and robust society cannot be realized without according dignity to women.
Inaugurating a month-long sanitary napkin-making training programme here in Tawang district on Saturday, Tashi said the state government has rolled out several schemes for women’s economic empowerment and is imparting training to them through its skill development agency.
He said the locally made sanitary napkins would prove to be “revolutionary, since the napkins available in the markets are embedded with chemicals, which are likely to cause health hazards.”
Assuring the trainees of his assistance, the MLA advised them to attend the training sincerely.
Thirty women are attending the training programme, which is being sponsored under the BADP.
Earlier, Tawang ADI Tsering Drema urged the trainees to “promulgate the benefits of learning new trades among the unemployed.”
The MLA later visited the government higher secondary school here and interacted with the teachers and students. He advised the students to work hard to gain academic excellence “and taste success in all aspects of life.”
He also inspected the ongoing construction of the school’s playground, and took note of the infrastructural needs of the school.
The MLA was accompanied by Lumla ADC RD Thungon, the PWD EE, and public leaders. (Tawang Vigilance)
