Cleanliness drive, special lecturesheld to mark Gandhi Jayanti

ITANAGAR, Oct 1: Cleanliness drives and special lectures were held at various places on Tuesday to pay tribute to the father of the nation before his 150th birth anniversary on Wednesday.
A cleanliness drive was conducted at the campus and nearby areas of the Vivekanada Kendra College of Teacher Education in Nirjuli by the institute’s BEd trainees on Tuesday.
Later, addressing the trainees, Assistant Professor Jolly Anju highlighted the significance of Gandhian methods of education, such as basic education, learning by doing and the twin principles of Mahatma Gandhi- truth and non-violence.
Principal of the college, Dr Minakshi Goswami Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
In Roing, a special lecture on the topic ‘Revisiting Gandhi: A Critical Study of His Life and its Contemporary Relevance’ was organised by the Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC), JominTayeng Government Model Degree College (JTGMDC) at the college on the same day.
Highlighting the objectives of introducing ArĂȘte Lecture Series in the college, IQAC coordinator and Assistant Professor Apilang Apum said that the main objective of the ArĂȘte Lecture Series is “to engage students and faculty members on many issues, which are of state, national and global importance and enrich the overall curriculum values.”
JTGMDC Assistant Professor Okiling Lego shared a brief history about the life of Mahatma Gandhi and focussed on the contribution made by Gandhi in the Indian freedom struggle, while the college’s principal Dr Monshi Tayeng laid special emphasis on the importance of keeping the environment and surroundings clean.
