ITANAGAR, Oct 8: The BRO Labourers’ Union, North East Region, has in a representation to President Ram Nath Kovind appealed to him to have its longsta-nding demands, including for maternity leave, fulfilled.
The union has been demanding basic rights like 15 days’ medical leave, maternity benefit, 30 days’ hospitalization leave, social security, right to education for the children of its members, regularization of the casual labourers, etc.
The union stated that it has already submitted numerous memorandums to the competent authorities, including the prime minister, but its demands have not been looked into till today.
It also informed the president that the union was compelled to go on a three-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in October last year.
