CHIMPU, Oct 16: Gohpur Sporting Club and Panthers SC became the first two teams to reach the quarterfinals of the 25th Vishwakarma Running Trophy Football Tournament.
Both teams entered the last eight defeating their respective opponents with an identical 4-3 margins via penalty shootouts at KV No 2 playground here on Wednesday.
The match played between Gohpur Sporting Club and Notte Bateh SC went to tie-breaker after both the teams were tied 1-1 at fulltime.
Notte Bateh took the lead with goal from Taksing Tai in the 6th minute which was equalized by Gohpur SC in the 37th minute. The equalizer was scored by T Ningesh.
Later, Gohpur SC won the match (4-3) through penalty shootout.
Panthers SC had played out a 0-0 draw with Torbu Dalv SC in regulation time before defeating their opponent (4-3) in the penalty shootout.
On Thursday, Manipuri FC will meet Pigey Poro FC at 2 pm and Hitey Chatey FC will be up against Chan-dranagar FC at 3:30 pm.
