JANG, Oct 17: The Monpa Mimang Tsogpa (MMT) on Thursday adopted the government higher secondary school (GHSS) here in Tawang district, following Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s recent call to community-based organisations to adopt government schools to ensure that they function properly.
Addressing the gathering at the GHSS, MMT president Rinchen Dorjee said, “Knowledge speaks and wisdom listens, so we should listen to our elders. School is a temple of learning, and with our combined efforts we all should contribute to increase the sanctity of this temple.”
Dorjee said “parents should play their role more actively, and should not leave the education of their children to the school only.”
“Education means all-round development, and we have to educate our children in social conduct, morals, and family values, besides bookish knowledge,” Dorjee said.
The adoption programme was attended by Tawang DC (in-charge) Lobsang Tsering, MMT members, DDSE Hridhar Phuntsok, officials, parents, and others.
Tsering commended the MMT for taking up the noble cause.
“The sole motive of receiving education does not mean getting a white-collar job. Teachers are the role models for students. No one remembers who the administrator was during their school times, but they never forget good teachers throughout their life,” he said.
Earlier, on 11 October, the MMT’s Dirang unit adopted the GHSS in Dirang, in the presence of MLA Phurpa Tsering, and it is in the process of adopting the GHSS in Khalaktang, the MMT president informed. (DIPRO)
