Eaglenest hosts nature camp for students, teachers

EAGLENEST, Oct 18: The environment & forests department organised its annual nature camp at the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in West Kameng district from 6 to 12 October as part of the Wildlife Week celebration.
During the weeklong nature camp, various workshops were conducted for students and teachers from schools in Jigaon, Rupa, Singchun and Ramalingam, and the government school here.
Sessions on bird identification, butterfly and moth identification, turtles and tortoises of Northeast India, etc, were held alongside snake rescue and handling and other activities.
The sessions were conducted by resource persons from universities and NGOs, besides filmmakers and the staff of the Singchun Bugun Village Community Reserve.
During the concluding function of the camp, the department felicitated the community reserve’s staff for their role in conserving the richness of the region.
Dorjee Phuntso Marphew was given a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding contribution in minimizing human-snake conflicts through snake rescue and release in the Shergaon forest division, while the ‘best check gate keeper’ award was given to Marphew and Leiki Dorjee Phiang, and the ‘most responsive staff’ award was given to Leki Norbu Phiang.
