ROING, Oct 24: The Galo community residing here under Lower Dibang Valley (LDV) district conducted a waste cleanliness programme under the banner of the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) LDV unit at the main market area on Thursday.
Vice president of the GWS LDV, Bapak Koyu informed that the idea behind the social service was to exhibit their cooperation and support to the public of Roing, and the district administration in keeping Roing town clean and plastic-free, as part of the ‘swachhta hi seva’ campaign under the theme ‘plastic waste shramdaan’.
“Alarmingly, we collected three truckloads of plastic waste from the market area alone,” Koyu added.
Members of the GWS created awareness among the shopkeepers and other market dwellers to keep their surroundings clean, to keep a dustbin and to dispose of the waste collected on a daily basis to avoid overflowing of garbage and littering.
The GWS also provided and installed 20 locally-made bamboo dustbins in the market area during the social service.
GWS LDV president Kego Jilen, secretary Liyee Ronya, DDSE Ego Doye and DPO Marto Dirchi were also present amongst many others.
