ITANAGAR, Oct 28: Stating that hazardous smoke emitting from M/s Shree Salasar Industries’ smelter factory in Lekhi village has been causing much pollution in the area, the All Arunachal Volunteer Sena (AAVS) has served a three-month ultimatum to the authorities, demanding that the factory be shifted to another location.
In a representation to the chief secretary, the organisation on Monday said the constant release of smoke from the factory has been causing many health issues among the inhabitants of the area.
“When the factory was established in Lekhi village, the town had only a few inhabitants, but now the population has increased, which makes it an even more dangerous situation as polluted air being emitted from the factory is affecting peoples’ lives.
“We acknowledge that the factory is needed for development, but not at the cost of people’s lives,” the AAVS said, and threatened to resort to democratic action if its demand is not met.
