Trg in bamboo handicrafts underway

ROING, Nov 4: A ‘bamboo handicrafts training session’ was inaugurated by the SBI’s Roing branch chief manager at NGO AMYAA’s headquarters here in Lower Dibang Valley district on Monday.
Master trainers Leeko Elapra and Joho Tayu will be teaching 30 participants during the training, which will continue till the 29th of this month.
Addressing the participants, AMYAA secretary Paul Chawang highlighted how Arunachal is a state with huge natural resources and how people in the old days were dependent on traditional crafts.
Chawang lamented the present scenario in the state, “wherein people are neglecting self-initiated entrepreneurship,” and spoke about how bamboo crafts could help reduce excessive use of plastic bags.
District Development Manager Nitya Mili encouraged the participants to establish a unit by coming up with innovative ideas, and asked the AMYAA to initiate follow-up measures after the training to ensure early setting up of a Roing-based bamboo unit in the district.
The SBI’s chief manager gave assurance that the banks are ready to provide financial loans to enterprising entrepreneurs in setting up manufacturing units in the district.
