NIRJULI, Nov 6: The Vivekananda Kendra College of Teacher Education (VKCTE) here conducted a college level seminar on ‘Education and social change’ at its campus on Wednesday.
Rajiv Gandhi University’s Department of Social Works HoD, Dr Kaushalendra Pratap Singh spoke on the need of value-based education for social change. He highlighted the role of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Jyotiba Phule, Swami Vivekananda, etc as leaders in revolutionising the Indian society by eradicating social evils that existed in the 19th and 20th centuries.
A retired professor from Mumbai, Dr Sasikala Gaekwad spoke on the four pillars for individual change- skill, concept, attitude and virtue.
First semester B Ed trainees, Lod Monya, Tam Tayo and Phurpa Tsering Bapu also presented their papers on education and modernisation, and education and national integration factors of social change.
College Principal Dr Minakshi G Sharma and Assistant Prof Utthaman VN also shared their inputs.
