KHONSA, Nov 12: The constituency/block level Hangpan Dada Memorial Football and Volleyball Tournaments, 2019-20, for Tirap district got underway at Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.
The opening match was played between Chinkoi Football Club and Thinsa Football Club, and the match was won by Chinkoi FC 4-1.
Deputy Commissioner (in-charge), H Kri, martyr Dada’s widow Chasen Lowang Dada, and DSO Noah Mongku attended the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Kri advised the youths of the district to abstain from cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.
He also remembered Dada, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Chasen expressed gratitude to the state government for conducting the tournaments in memory of her husband. She advised the participating teams to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
DSO Mongku recalled how Dada sacrificed his life on 27 May, 2016, after single-handedly eliminating four terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir.
The tournaments are held for both men and women from the block levels. The winners of the block/constituency level competitions then compete in the district level, followed by the state level competitions.
The finals of the tournaments will coincide with the Statehood Day celebration every year.
