PASIGHAT, Nov 12: East Siang HQ Pasighat is set to host the first U-17 State Level Kho Kho Championship from 3-12 December.
Around 800 players from various schools in all the districts of the state are expected to participate in the championship.
Addressing a coordination meeting here on Tuesday, Education Minister Taba Tedir said the event would “go a long way in promoting and encouraging the young generation to take up and excel in traditional games and sports.”
The minister earlier visited the Pasighat stadium to witness the preparations for the upcoming event.
Tedir, who is also the president of the Kho-Kho Association of Arunachal Pradesh, sought support from local MLA Kaling Moyong, the district administration, the police, the HoDs, and sports lovers to make the event successful.
He said the state government is focusing on “holistic education by encouraging games and sports in schools,” and added that Kho Kho “promotes mental agility and physical fitness, and can be played by children and people of all ages.”
The minister also lauded the proactive efforts of DC Kinny Singh, saying she has been taking keen interest in improving the district’s education sector.
Urging all stakeholders to strive to provide quality education to the students, Tedir said, “Most of the officers, technocrats and achievers in the UPSC and other fields are products of government schools of the state. The state government, teachers and parents have a collective role to improve the education scenario.”
Moyong and the DC on their part assured to provide all support for successful conduct of the event.
Earlier, School Education Director Gania Leij spoke about the aim of promoting traditional Indian games and sports in the state under the Centre’s Khelo India initiative.
Among others, ADC Taddo Borang, DDSE J Yirang, IGJHSS Principal T Taloh, and DEMGHSS Principal A Tayeng attended the meeting. (DIPRO)
