HONG, Nov 17: The All Hong Employees’ and Pensioners’ Welfare Association has adopted the government secondary school in Hong and the government residential school in Siiro, following a meeting held here in Lower Subansiri district on Saturday.
Secondary Education Director Gania Leij, Deputy Commissioner Chukhu Takar, and a huge gathering of students, parents and others attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Leij informed about the government’s policies and programmes, including the CMSSY, under which a science laboratory, security walls and other infrastructure can be constructed, free textbooks distributed, school uniforms provided, and schools declared tobacco-free zones, among other things.
He also spoke about the duties and responsibilities of the school management committees (SMC) in monitoring the wellbeing of the schools.
“The SMCs need not concentrate on construction works only but focus on regularity and punctuality of teachers to improve the performance of the students,” Leij said.
He assured to post the required teaching and non-teaching staffs in the schools, “as per the sanctioned strength,” and instructed the school authorities to “get allotment of the school land to prevent encroachment.”
Deputy Commissioner Chukhu Takar, retired IFS officer Hibu Dole, and Dr Hibu Tagyung also spoke.
