PASIGHAT, Dec 5: The World Soil Day was celebrated jointly by the KVK and the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) here on Thursday, during which a farmer-scientist interaction programme on soil health management was also arranged.
CHF Dean Prof BN Hazarika advised the KVK scientists and faculties of CHF to concentrate on organic based farmer-friendly technologies.
“The need of the hour is to find a holistic and scientific approach by all stakeholders to replenish the health of soil for life to exist,” Hazarika said while highlighting about the bad agricultural practices.
The farmers were informed about the importance of soil testing and soil health card by the subject matter specialists.
The resource persons from the KVK educated the farmers about pest and disease management in ginger and finger millet, organic vegetable production, vermicomposting, value addition of various spices and vegetable crops etc.
Department of Plant Protection Head Prof DB Ahuja spoke about the extension activities taken up by the department and the college for benefit of farmers of the state.
He emphasized on use of improved seeds and proven technologies for improving the socioeconomic condition of the farm families.
