JOLLANG, Dec 18: A workshop on ‘Teaching strategies for children with Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities’ was organized by the Department of Special Education, Himalayan University (HU) at Eklavya Public School here under Papumpare on Wednesday.
During the workshop, special education HoD Ibraheem Khan spoke about multisensory teaching method for children with learning disabilities which is also called VAKT technique.
“If a student faces deficit in visual perception than teacher should use remaining three senses to help student with learning disabilities. A teacher can use alternative writing surfaces such as student’s skin, sand etc,” he said adding that awareness about learning disabilities and characteristics, causes and intervention is necessary for parents and school teachers.
Assistant professor Shadab Alam spoke about teaching strategies for children with intellectual disabilities to improve their attention and achievement level.
