KAMRU, Mar 15: Members of the Aalo Town Peoples’ Welfare and Development Society (ATPWDS) and the MAYA, along with GBs and former panchayat members participated in an awareness meeting on ‘untraditional way of fishing in different rivers of West Siang’, held here recently.
The ATPWDS members, led by its chairman Kento Ete, spoke on “the need to maintain the ecological balance to counter global warming that is causing health hazards.”
Stressing the need to put a blanket ban on untraditional fishing and hunting methods to conserve aquatic life, birds and animals, the ATPWDS team said it is making efforts to “draw a uniform opinion on ban on fishing and hunting with neighbouring districts.”
The West Siang administration has already banned the sale of fishing nets and wet and dry fishes in the markets from April to stop fishing during the breeding season. (DIPRO)
