Tawang DA bans importing vegetables

TAWANG, Apr 2: The Tawang district administration has decided not to procure any fresh vegetables from outside the district, and has instructed the department concerned to mobilize the local vegetable growers in order to meet the district’s requirements.
The decision was made during a meeting convened by DC Sang Phuntsok here on Thursday in view of the high alert triggered by the identification of positive Covid-19 cases in the neighbouring state. Representatives of NGOs and the market welfare committees, and the ADCs of Lungla and Jang participated in the meeting.
A committee led by DRDA PD Lobsang Tseten has been formed to monitor the requirements of essential commodities in the district.
The Tawang LAMPS has been entrusted to procure potatoes, onions and other cereal commodities.
The DC meanwhile commended the NGOs and the market welfare committees for delivering essential items at the people’s doorsteps for the last few days while observing protective measures. (DIPRO)
