Late Ratan’s family offers gratitude for support

PASIGHAT, Apr 30: The Ratan Welfare Society (RWS) and the family of late Atom Ratan – the director of Wonderland Residential School in East Kameng HQ Seppa, who passed away on 25 April while attempting to save a drowning teacher, Anand Topo – have expressed gratitude to those who rendered support in retrieving Ratan’s body.
“At a time of mourning, the kind of help, physical and moral support and words of condolence from relatives and friends, the Adi Ba:ne Kebang, the Dolo Erang Kebang, Geku-Mariyang MLA Kanggong Taku, Agriculture Secretary Bidol Tayeng, the East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organization, the Kameng Eco-Adventure Club, the SDRF team, the East Kameng district administration, Seppa 360 News, neighbours, the Catholic church of Seppa, visitors and well-wishers who rallied around has given us consolation and strength to overcome this difficult phase,” the bereaved family said in a message on Thursday evening.
Ratan (32) is survived by his wife and a daughter. His last rites were performed on Wednesday at the Catholic burial ground in Seppa.
The RWS appealed to the state government to provide relief and compensation to the family members of both the deceased.
“Late Atom Ratan sacrificed his life to save the drowning staff late Anand Topo. The loss is immeasurable, irreparable, and created a vacuum, but his sacrifice will always be remembered,” RWS secretary-general Orin Ratan said.
