Dukam asks work agencies to deposit 1% cess to board

AALO, Oct 29: Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board Chairman Nyato Dukam has asked the work agencies to “deposit one percent cess through demand draft directly to the board for proper implementation of the money towards welfare of the labours in the state.”

The chairman said this in a meeting with the West Siang deputy commissioner here on Thursday.

The fund available with the board will now be decentralized by placing the fund required for the districts under the respective DCs for speedy implementation.

Dukam informed that the statutory benefits for labourers have been increased drastically. These include raise in maternity benefits from Rs 1,000 to Rs 6,000; increase in natural death cover from Rs 15,000 to Rs 2 lakhs; and increase in accidental death cover from Rs 50,000 to Rs 4 lakhs, besides a fillip in medical aid and education benefits for the labourers.

Responding to the chairman’s suggestions on improving the condition of the labourers and ensuring that the benefits reach them, DC Moki Loyi said that “land for establishing labour shed will be tried through the LR department.” He also said that a registration drive and awareness for labourers will be held soon.
