Monitoring of road infrastructure required

The road infrastructure in the western part of Arunachal is quite poor in comparison to eastern Arunachal. Most of the road projects, including the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH), have failed in this region. The Itanagar capital region (ICR) itself is struggling for a good road. Districts like Lower Subansiri, Kamle, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Upper Subansiri, etc, have the worst roads. In this context, the recent initiative of some of the elected representatives of some of the districts mentioned above is really appreciable. Home Minister Bamang Felix, who is the MLA of Nyapin assembly constituency in Kurung Kumey district, recently visited his home district to review the progress of the Joram-Koloriang TAH, which passes through Lower Subansiri, Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey.

Felix made it clear that the development of Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi has been badly affected due to non-completion of the JK highway. The leaders of two districts, including Palin MLA Balo Raja and Tali MLA Jikke Tako, have called for early completion of the JK TAH. This is a good move by the elected representatives of Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi to personally monitor the progress of the highway. Their active participation will definitely push the contractor and the department concerned to speed up the work. However, they should conduct such review meetings on a regular basis and undertake ground visits too. Also, recently, the construction of Package 4 of the TAH in Kamle district was flagged off by MLA Tarin Dakpe at Pha Koro, near Raga. This is another encouraging report as work for the TAH in Kamle and Upper Subansiri districts has been very slow to pick pace.
