In a serious allegation, the Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso on Sunday alleged that PWD Chief Engineer (Survey, Investigation, Design & Planning) Atop Lego is stalling the construction of the Borum-Helipad Bridge in Naharlagun.
Kaso alleged that the office of chief engineer has failed to provide the design of the launching tower due to which the project has been halted. As of now the office of CE has not responded to the allegation.
However, the nature of the allegation is very serious and it needs to be thoroughly investigated. How can an officer create obstacles in the construction of such an important infrastructure project?
Chief Minister Pema Khandu who is also holding the portfolio of PWD often emphasizes the need to strictly maintain the deadline while implementing any project.
Here, his own chief engineer is being alleged of stalling a major bridge project. The truth has to be told to the public.
Mr. Lego is a well-respected senior official of the PWD. Everyone is aware about the urgent need to construct the Borum-Helipad Bridge at Naharlagun. At present there is only one route (NH 415) to reach Naharlagun because of which there is always massive traffic snarl. The people of the capital have been pinning hope on two bridges namely, Borum-Helipad and railway at Lekhi.
Once completed, these two bridges will massively ease the traffic on NH 415. The Borum-Helipad Bridge is being constructed by PWD. Not much progress has been made in the last few years. There is an urgent need to address the issues concerning it. The PWD along with the contractor should resolve the outstanding issues and re-start the construction of the bridge at the earliest.
