AAPWU seeks welfare measures for its member

ITANAGAR, 19 May: Stating that the pandemic has hit the workers and the daily wage earners hard, the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) on Wednesday appealed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu to take some immediate measures to provide succour to the workers.

The union requested the chief minister to provide free treatment and lodging facilities to the casual/ contingency workers, who have been detected positive for the coronavirus.

Highlighting the hardships faced by the casual/ contingency workers due to the Covid-19-induced lockdown/ containment measures, it appealed to the chief minister to release their monthly wages as soon as possible and also to provide food and essential commodities to them.

“Food and essential commodities should also be provided to the workers of the private sectors,” the memorandum said.

The union appealed to the government to provide financial assistance to the daily

wages earners, like widows/ single women, who had been running small businesses, but affected by the lockdown.

It also urged the government to consider giving extra financial assistance of Rs 2,000 each to those casual/ contingency workers, who have been engaged in Covid-19 duties.

“Financial assistance should also be provided to workers who are registered under the Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board,” the memorandum said.
