RUKSIN, 15 Jul: The police in East Siang district have rearrested two more undertrial prisoners (UTP) who had escaped from the Pasighat jail along with five others on 11 July.

On Wednesday night, the police caught Diganta Gogoi alias Abhijit Gogoi (30) from Jonai Lakhinepali village (near the Murkongselek railway station).

Based on information provided by Gogoi during interrogation, the police nabbed another escaped UTP, Subhash Mondal alias Santosh Mondal (28) from Purana Jelom village (Assam) on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, the police had rearrested UTP Kalen Apang, of Jenging in Upper Siang district, from Pasighat.

With this, the police have so far rearrested three of the seven escaped UTPs. The four others are still at large.

Members of the Adi Ba:ne Kebang (Youth), VDPs, NGO members of East Siang and the Mising Students’ Union of Jonai (Assam) are helping the East Siang police in conducting search operations to capture the escaped UTPs.

The East Siang police have circulated messages to all the police stations of the state and nearby Assam, and also alerted the public to “keep a vigil on suspected movements of the escaped UTPs through massive postering at public places.”

The four other UTPs, who have been declared ‘wanted’ by the police, are Telung Panyi (37), of Tuting, Raja Tayeng (23), of Gadum (Mebo), Taro Hamam (18), of Palin (Kra Daadi), and Deni Gamlin (28), of Nari in Lower Siang district.
