ROING, 19 Jul: The Lower Dibang Valley district child protection unit (DCPU) organized a programme on child rights, in collaboration with the Arunachal Rural State Livelihood Mission, for SHG members here on Monday.
The programme was attended by SHG members, PLF members, ArSLM staffers and DCPU staffers. It started on 13 July and has so far covered 150 members from 36 SHGs.
During Monday’s programme, District Child Protection Officer GA Perying highlighted the objectives of various child rights protection laws, such as the JJ (CPC) Act, 2015, the POCSO (Amendment) Act, 2019, the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016, the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, etc.
DCPU Protection Officer Napi Meto made a presentation highlighting the SHGs’ role vis-à-vis child rights issues. “SHGs can perform effectively for preventing cases related to child abuse, child labour, illegal adoption, etc,” he said.
DCPU counsellor Tokgul Badu also spoke.
