ITANAGAR, 1 Oct: Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Anirudh S Singh launched the ‘Clean India’ campaign in Arunachal Pradesh on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti at Niti Vihar here on Friday.
The programme was virtually launched at the national level by union Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Anurag Thakur earlier on the same day.
“The success of a campaign of such magnitude largely depends on participation of the masses, including government employees,” Singh said, and called upon all the stakeholders, including youth clubs, volunteers and government departments, to come forward to make the campaign a success.
ICR DC Talo Potom requested the ward members, the corporators and the public to take the campaign forward in their homes, colonies and villages.
The DC also appealed to people of all age groups to come forward and participate in the month-long programme being organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NKYS) as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
NKYS state director Inkhuanguang said that “the ‘Clean India’ programme was conceived on the ethos of jan bhagidari (voluntary involvement of people) and therefore all stakeholders are being approached for the success of the programme.”
He said that the key activities during the programme would be collection of waste, particularly single-use plastic, village beautification drives and cleanliness and maintenance of traditional water sources. (DIPRO)
