Pasighat to host Siang River Festival

PASIGHAT, 15 Dec: The Siang River Festival, one of the popular festivals celebrated in Arunachal, will be held at Raneghat on the bank of Siang here in East Siang district on 20 and 21 December next.

As part of the celebration, various events and activities are being organized from 17 December to create awareness on river cleaning, rejuvenation, rainwater harvesting, storytelling on freedom fighters, painting competition on water conservation. Awareness programmes on Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachch Bharat Mission (Gramin) are also being conducted at community level.

Cultural presentations by folk artistes from the host and other Northeastern states and the North East Zone Cultural Centre will be one of the main attractions of the inaugural programme.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, his deputy Chowna Mein and Brahmaputra Board chairman Rajiv Yadav are expected to attend the inaugural programme scheduled at 2 pm of 20 December.

The Siang chapter of the Brahmaputra Utsav is organized by the state government in collaboration with the Brahmaputra Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The festival attempts to promote ecotourism and offer lot of adventure activities, cultural shows and folk dances. Apart from these, exhibition of handloom and handicrafts are also held.

The festival this year is being celebrated as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. (DIPRO)
