KHONSA, 16 Dec: The POCSO Court here in Tirap district on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 62-year-old man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a nine-year-old girl.
The court convicted Unilye Chakma @ Anil Kumar Chakma of Diyun in Changlang district under section 6 of the POCSO Act for committing ‘aggravated penetrative sexual assault.’
The man raped the minor girl on 25 July, 2020, while she was going to a nearby shop for purchasing some biscuits.
The police after receiving an FIR swung into action and apprehended the accused. Investigation officer Inspector P.K Kalita filed the charge-sheet after completion of the investigation.
The court has referred the matter to Changlang District Legal Services Authority for providing adequate compensation for rehabilitation of the victim under Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme. (DIPRO)
