Electric poles pose hurdle to road widening work

RUKSIN, 16 Dec: The electric poles along the Mirem-Mikong-Jonai (MMJ) PWD road installed by Power Grid Corporation currently pose a hurdle to the ongoing road widening and restructuring works.

The members of ‘MMJ Road Construction Monitoring Committee (MMJ-RCMC)’ of Ruksin, who are helping the construction agency in the works, earlier moved power department officials demanding shifting of the electric poles. But it was alleged that the officials did not respond to their plea.

Also, many families have made structures beside the road between Mikong and Mirem tinali resulting in delay in construction of embankments.

The MMJ-RCMC has appealed to the families concerned to leave their land for the sake of road development in their area.

Earlier, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering had asked local leaders to maintain active cooperation with the implementing agency (i.e. Puna Hinda Company) for time-bound completion of the construction.

MLA Ering recently approached the general manager of Power Grid Corporation for early removal of the electric poles from MMJ road.

The general manager of power, Ajit Kumar in his response to the MLA, assured to clear the electric lines and make the road free for work within a short period.

The 2-lane road reconstruction of historical Mirem-Mikong-Jonai (MMJ) road in East Siang district is in progress as the construction agency has engaged its man and machines round the clock.

Foundation and widening (embankment) works of the road besides renovation of old culverts is already completed at some portions.  The scheduled time of completion of the road work is November next year.

The road restructuring project implemented by Pasighat division public works department is funded by the DoNER ministry. The ministry under its North East Road Sector Development Scheme has sanctioned Rs. 42.27 crore for complete restructuring of the 15-km long road.
