ITANAGAR, 10 Feb: The Lower Subansiri district unit of the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) recently organized a series of programmes on positive engagement of youths on pertinent issues faced by the community and “building a common understanding to address the issues through volunteerism and social service.”
On 8 February, it organized a ‘district level neighbourhood youth parliament’ at the circuit house in Hapoli, in the presence of District Youth Officer (in-charge) Ajong Sitek.
Sitek said that the Lower Subansiri NYK “is committed towards developing youth in the best possible way to lead the society and to contribute in the nation-building process.”
On 9 February, an awareness programme on water conservation was held at Ziro. It saw the participation of around 80 youths.
During the programme, Sitek highlighted the initiatives and schemes of the Centre for conserving and saving rainwater.
“The government is implementing a number of schemes for rainwater harvesting, which include the Atal Bhujal Yojana (Atal Jal), the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, etc,” he said.
He further said that trainings, workshops, competitions, seminars, webinars, etc, are also held for generating awareness on effective implementation of the schemes and programmes on water conservation and rainwater harvesting.
