MIAO, 11 Feb: The state government has approved setting up of a special economic zone (SEZ) in Changlang district.
On Friday, a team of officers from Kolkata’s Falta SEZ (under the union commerce ministry), led by Zonal Development Commissioner BK Panda, Deputy Development Commissioner MK Anjanaiah and Assistant Development Commissioner PK Panda inspected the industrial land at Balingnong here in Changlang district for establishing the SEZ.
Following inspection of the sites in Miao, the team assured that the matter would be placed before the board under the commerce ministry for approval. A joint inspection report was also signed during the visit.
The joint team stated that setting up of an SEZ in Changlang district would have many advantages and boost the economy of the region, since it is located near Pangsau Pass (Indo-Myanmar border).
A foundation stone had been laid in January 2020 for opening Indo-Myanmar border trade at Pangsau Pass by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Ambassador of Myanmar Moe Kyaw Aung.
Pangsau Pass is strategically located in Nampong in Changlang district, and can function as a commercial route on the Indo-Myanmar border. The Stilwell Road passes through Pangsau Pass.
State Industries Secretary Hage Tari, Trade & Commerce Director Sonyung Modi, Changlang DC (in-charge) Arjun Mohan, Changlang Industries Deputy Director N Mossang, Miao ADC Sunny Singh and other officials were present during the inspection. (DIPRO)
