Wreath-laying ceremony for army jawans killed in avalanche held

ITANAGAR, 12 Feb: The wreath-laying ceremony for the seven Indian Army personnel who laid their lives in the line of duty in an avalanche that struck them on 6 February at Kholong Point along the LAC in Tawang district was held with full military honours at the Indian Air Force’s Tezpur (Assam) station on Saturday.

The seven bravehearts have been identified as Havildar Jugal Kishore, Riflemen Arun Kattal, Akshay Pathania, Vishal Sharma, Rakesh Singh and Ankesh Bhardwaj, and Gunner (TA) Gurbaj Singh of the 19 JAK Rifles.

The defence PRO informed that Gajraj Corps General Officer Commanding, Lt Gen Ravin Khosla and other military officials paid their last respects to the bravehearts.

After the ceremony, the bodies were sent to the jawans’ native places in Akhnoor, Kathua and Khour in Jammu & Kashmir, Batala and Dharkalan in Punjab and Bajinath, Kangra and Ghamarwin in Himachal Pradesh.

Their bodies were recovered from the avalanche site at an altitude of 14,500 feet.
